About Youth Co:Lab
Co-created in 2017 by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Citi Foundation, Youth Co:Lab aims to establish a common agenda for countries in the Asia-Pacific region to empower and invest in youth, so that they can accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through leadership, social innovation and entrepreneurship. By developing young people’s 21st century skills, and by catalysing and sustaining youth-led startups and social enterprises across the region, Youth Co:Lab is positioning young people front and centre in order to solve the region’s most pressing challenges.

In addition to supporting youth entrepreneurship, Youth Co:Lab also works closely with multiple stakeholders, including governments, civil society and the private sector, to strengthen the entrepreneurship ecosystem and to promote policies that will support and enable young people to take the lead in finding and developing new solutions for social and environmental problems in their communities. Background:
The Fusion Hub turns waste into sustainable furniture and home decor pieces whilst also training and employing women from disadvantaged economic background and youth in furniture making and joinery.

The Fusion Hub was born out of Sagufta Janif’s desire to provide a solution to Fiji’s growing waste problem, create a sustainable Fiji and contribute to the economic empowerment of Fijian women.

In Fiji the landfills receive 60,000 tonnes of waste in a year and that is just the amount that is collected from the urban areas. Rural communities do not have that access and resort to either burning, burying or dumping in the ocean.

During the pandemic, we saw an increasing trend in grocery and produce shopping. There has also been an increase in buying of PPE and hygienic products. This however means higher consumption of plastic packaged foods and plastic packaged products which adds greatly to the global waste crisis.

Our solution is to provide our customers with a ""zero-waste"" shopping experience and support our local SME's, Market Vendors and Farmers. With a project proposal, we will be able to communicate with donors more efficiently.

Requirements: 1 hour per week for 2 months, excel at business materials crafting and PR materials, basic understanding of challenges faced by the youth in the Pacific islands would be a plus.
